Twin cities

One of the most important directions of the development of international contacts of Izhevsk is cooperation in the frames of twin cities relations.

The twin cities movement was born during the World War II. In 1942 Coventry (the United Kingdom) and Stalingrad (the Soviet Union) decided to set up friendly relations in purpose to bring people into a closer understanding of each other and to promote cross-border projects of mutual benefit. Lately, noble aims of the movement obtained the recognition of the general public and furthered the development of civil initiative in different countries.

On 10thof December, 1992 friendly relations with the city of Tatabanya (Hungary) were established and special agreements on cooperation were signed.

On 12thof June, 1995 Izhevsk and Yambol (Bulgaria) became twin cities.

On 12thof May, 2002 friendly relations with the city of Xining (China) were set up.

On 11thof June, 2004 Bedzin (Poland) became a twinning city of Izhevsk.

On 13thof June, 2006 friendly relations with the city of Cordoba (Argentina) were officially launched and special agreements on cooperation were signed.

Approximately in a month (on 25thof July, 2006Maracay (Venezuela)and Izhevsk became twin cities.

On 11th of June, 2015 the Head of the City ofIzhevsk and the Chairman of Brest (Belarus) Executive Council signed the Protocol of Intentions to create conditions for the establishment of twinning-partnership relations.

On 15thof Jule, 2016 Izhevsk and Wuhan (China) became twin cities.

On 2nd of November, 2016 twinning-partnership relations between Izhevsk and Brest (Belarus) were established

On 16th of June, 2017 the Agreement on establishing twinning relations between Izhevsk and Wuhan (China) was signed in Hefei (China).

On June 2017 the Agreement on cooperation between the City Council of Izhevsk and the Brest City Council of Deputies (Belarus) was signed.

On 15th of Jule, 2016 in Izhevsk and Wuhan (China) became twin cities.
